Melinda Liu for Irvine City Council District 1

ATTORNEY, ADVOCATE, PARENT,

AND VOLUNTEER

About Melinda Liu

Melinda Liu is an Asian-American attorney who has been a Northwood resident for 20 years.  As a single parent, she has raised three children in the Irvine Unified School District; all of whom are outstanding, young adults now. In addition to running her law practice, Melinda is also the primary caregiver for her elderly parents, who also reside in Northwood. Melinda has raised her children in the excellent public schools in Irvine. She has deep roots in the community at the elementary, middle, and high school-level in the Irvine and Tustin Unified School Districts and in the Irvine Chinese School that is part of the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center (SCCCC). She has been a super volunteer in many Irvine-based, non-profit organizations. As such, her deep roots are reflective of the tremendous support and endorsements her campaign have already received from the Irvine community and in the City of Irvine District 1 where she resides.

Melinda is a first-generation, Asian-American immigrant who is bilingual (fluent in Chinese and in English) and who is sensitive to the values of her birth culture and what it means to be Asian-American.  At age 16, Melinda moved to Los Angeles with her family, and has lived in California for more than 30 years.

In 1997, Melinda graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from University of California, Berkeley. In 2001, she earned her Juris Doctor degree from Southwestern University School of Law, Los Angeles, California.  Since then, she has been a member of the California Bar and admitted to practice on the Federal level. Since 2009, Melinda has also been a licensed Real Estate Broker in the State of California, and a certified Mediator in her law practice since 2021.

A Career of Service

Melinda has worked with both small business and the immigrant community throughout her legal career.  During law school, she handled family and employment immigration cases at boutique firms.  In addition, she has worked with small and medium-size businesses in transactions, litigations, and complex government regulations in both private and public sectors.  Currently, she handles estate planning and divorce mediations in her law practice.

A firm believer in cooperation and finding common ground, Melinda applies her negotiation skills in her profession and in her pro-bono work.  She helps families set up trusts and wills to avoid future disagreements, and helps couples end their marriages, amicably, in her practice.  As a real estate broker, Melinda negotiates deals for her customers looking to buy their dream homes or rental investments.  As a volunteer mediator at the Orange County Superior Court, she also helps parties peacefully resolve restraining order and eviction disputes.
